It's an indisputable fact that the higher up the ladder you get the firmer your foundations need to be and the stronger your support system. The most successful executives and business owners I work with are fully cognisant of this and I think it's fair to say it actively directs and guides both major and minor decisions as well as management style.

I think though it's also probably true to comment that when it comes to creating a support system you're likely to fall into one of two categories. There are those who know instinctively what, where and how to create one and the reasons they should be doing it. There are others who deep down are actually rather of the opinion that they can go it better alone but accede reluctantly to the theories and logic until the whole thing actually and indisputably proves its benefit to them.

Whichever route you take to the same result and however your support team is structured - because obviously different leadership styles or indeed business models call for individual approaches - alongside those who keep the wheels turning on a day to day basis, there should always be someone helping you step back, view the big picture and maintain clear objectives. That certainly seems to be what so many of my clients gain from the work we do together.
